Highlights of the Renshaw 2001 Reunion

Provided by Glenn Barbee

We had a great turnout and it was really wonderful to see some new faces, along with many old friends. The hotel was excellent and all the events came off with the precision we've learned to expect when Sandy and Ray Smith, along with Jan and Don McCurry, are involved.

We had a schedule of events similar to past reunions and which seems to be enjoyed by most attendees. There was a day tour on both Friday and Saturday. Some modifications to the original tour stops were necessary due to the high state of military security because of the events beginning September 11. This was fully understood by all of us and the tour company did a good job filling in the gaps.

I didn't attend the Friday tour, but the reports I heard were all good. I went on the Saturday tour, which included the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Museum, MacArthur Center and the MacArthur Memorial. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (located in Portsmouth, Virginia) was not open for visitors. Fortunately, the museum is located outside the base perimeter.
