USS Renshaw DD/DDE-499Reunion 2010
New Orleans, Louisana, September 21-23, 2010
There were around 40 Renshaw shipmates in attendance, along with guests. We were happy to see several attending our reunion for the first time. It was especially great to see that our WWII shipmates were well represented again this year. Among other festivities, we were able to celebrate Dick Wenzel's 90th birthday at this reunion.
The accommodations and service at the hotel were excellent. We had our usual informal get together on Wednesday evening and the banquet was held on Thursday. This formal affair featured a great guest speaker from the U.S. Navy, along with the usual program hosted by Don McCurry and the fabulous door prizes coordinated by Jan and Jane. Everything happened as planned, as we have come to expect over these many years of Renshaw reunions. As always, the main place for memories and sea stories was our Hospitality Room.-----------------
Tours
Wednesday 22
We started at the Oak Alley Plantation and then had lunch there. We came back to New Orleans for a bus tour of the French quarter, Jackson Square, and Lake Pontchartrain. We also had a chance to see the cemeteries and the ninth ward (famous during Katrina).
Thursday 23
We visited the National World War ll Museum. We enjoyed a great lunch at The American Sector Restaurant. We viewed an amazing 4D movie presentation hosted by actor Tom Hanks. The seats shook and the snow actually fell from the ceiling at the appropriate times!
